SPCA (HK) x Star Ferry DOG DOG Shipcation

Come onboard Hong Kong’s first-ever dog-friendly harbour tour on the iconic Star Ferry

(Hong Kong, 11 April 2023) The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (“the SPCA,” “the Society”) is proud to present “DOG DOG Shipcation” in partnership with Star Ferry -- the first-ever dog-friendly tour around the Victoria habour From 29 to 30 April 2023, dog owners will be able to enjoy the renowned harbour view of the city together with their beloved furry friends onboard the iconic Star Ferry for the first time.

Designed for dogs, DOG DOG Shipcation will embark on a 45-minute long ferry ride across the Victoria harbour starting from Central. Along the way, there will be plenty of photo opportunities against the backdrop of the harbour’s iconic skyline and architectural structures that make it unique, including the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center at Wanchai and the Clock Tower at Tsim Sha Tsui. To top it off, each dog participant will receive a sailor-themed hat and bandana, a customized certificate as well as other gifts to make the experience a lifetime memory. All fees and donations from the event will go towards the medical and daily expenses of animals in need at the SPCA.

As Hong Kong’s longest-standing animal welfare organisation, apart from rescuing and rehoming animals in need, the SPCA has been proactively finding new ways to engage the community and foster a more pet-inclusive environment to improve animal welfare across all aspects.

“Dog Dog Shipcation offers people a fantastic opportunity to enjoy Hong Kong’s iconic harbour views whilst sailing on another icon in Hong Kong – the Star Ferry accompanied by friends and family, including your canine pals. Whilst more and more facilities are becoming pet inclusive, the transportation options in Hong Kong for pet owners are very limited. Currently, you can hop on a ferry with your dog to explore Hong Kong’s outlying islands, but wouldn’t it be great in the future to be able to hop on a ferry to explore the different pet friendly areas and facilities on either side of the harbour? We hope the success of ‘Dog Dog Shipcation’ will continue to encourage more pet-inclusive transportation in the city, making the event not only meaningful for the event participants but for all dog owners in the days to come,” said Dr. Fiona Woodhouse, Deputy Director, Welfare, the SPCA (HK).
