Special Thematic Talk

The Education Bureau (EDB) has actively promoted “Values Education” and “Life-wide Learning” in recent years. To support schools in nurturing students with positive attitudes, the SPCA, has specifically designed 6 Special Thematic Talks.

We integrate animal welfare issues with core values such as “Perseverance, Respect for Others, Responsibility, Commitment, Integrity, Benevolence, Law-abidingness, Empathy, and Diligence”. Through real-life case studies of animals, we inspire students to think from multiple perspectives.

Introduction to the 6 Special Thematic Talks

Life Education

Content Description: Addressing the negative emotions that often arise among today’s youth when facing hardships and stress, this sharing aims to encourage students to cultivate a positive mindset and reflect on life from diverse perspectives. By exploring the beauty and value within the animal world, we inspire students to appreciate life.

Furthermore, by sharing real stories of how animals with physical disabilities adapt to their conditions and live vibrantly, students are guided to build resilience in life. This enables them to better appreciate themselves, unlock their personal potentials, and face life’s challenges with a proactive attitude.

Core Values: Empathy, Perseverance, Respect for Life

Career Planning

Content Description: Gain deep insights into the diverse career opportunities within the animal welfare and pet industries! This session introduces the daily work, responsibilities, and challenges of various professional roles—including veterinarians, animal inspectors, dog trainers, and pet groomers. It inspires students to explore booming sectors in animal welfare, while reflecting on their future career development and life commitments.

Pet Care & Responsibility

Content Description: Delve deeply into the careful considerations required before choosing to keep a pet, including understanding daily husbandry needs, time investments, and the legal grey areas surrounding exotic pets. Through this exploration, students are guided to grasp the true weight of “commitment” and “responsibility,” rejecting impulsive purchases and building an authentic sense of responsibility towards living things.

Hong Kong Stray Animal Situation

Content Description: Understand the origins, survival challenges, and community conflicts faced by stray animals in Hong Kong. It also conveys the vital message that pet ownership is a lifelong commitment.

Illegal Wildlife Trade

Content Description: Analyse the severe realities of global and local wildlife smuggling. This session places a strong emphasis on exposing the illicit nature and legal penalties associated with the illegal purchase, possession, and trafficking of endangered species.
