There is no time like the present to train (or retrain) your puppy or dog to fit into the human world! The SPCA offers training programmes aiming to PREVENT problems arising (Puppy Socialisation Training) and to train you on how to best train your canine member of the family on how to BEHAVE (Basic Obedience Training). The SPCA's methods are fun and easy to apply for all family members.
Walk away from punishment-based (negative) training methods and learn how you can motivate and reward your dog to obtain the best possible behaviour.
Positive reinforcement training establishes a bond with your dog based on trust, not fear. By understanding what makes your dog tick and using the proven techniques, you will learn how to socialise and train your dog to be a well-mannered companion.
The better you understand your dog, the more your dog will understand you
and the better your relationship will be.
Obedience training is basically an education in good manners. Our group classes are excellent for teaching you training skills so that you can teach your canine companion to respond to cues for responses, such as sit, down, stand, stay, come and loose leash walking, as well as for troubleshooting issues in poor manners, such as jumping up and pulling on leash. Put an end to all kinds of undesirable behaviour without yelling, threats, force or punishment.
It is much easier to prevent behaviour problems than to change bad habits. Start off on the right foot by attending training classes as early as possible in your dog's life. After all, you would not wait until your child is a teenager to start his/her schooling!
