Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), University of Pretoria, South Africa.

CAREER PATH
The first two years of my veterinary career were spent doing National Service as a veterinary surgeon in South Africa, after which I worked in Cape Town for 2 years. I moved to UK in 1992, and stayed until November 2025 before moving to Hong Kong. During my time in the UK I did a mixture of small animals, exotic pets and zoo work. I have lectured in many countries in Europe and China, and helped to contribute chapters on exotic pet medicine and surgery for various textbooks.
VETERINARY INTERESTS
Exotic and zoo animals, soft tissue surgery, welfare work and conservation. I am currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Conservation Medicine.
REASONS FOR WORKING AT THE SPCA (HK)
I have always wanted to live and work in Asia and do welfare work, the SPCA combines these two perfectly.
PETS
Currently none but have kept birds, reptiles and small mammals, as well as dogs and cats in the past. I am sure it will not be too long before I adopt a few more – a hazard of the job!
INTERESTS
Open water swimming , running, cycling , triathlon, Padel, scuba diving, photography, reading, travel, wildlife and conservation work. I have also recently started flying lessons!
