Dr. Heidie Park
Veterinary Surgeon
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION
Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), University of Liverpool, Masters in Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law (MSc AWSEL), University of Winchester & Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS), UK.
CAREER PATH
After graduating from vet school, I spent a number of years in private practice in the UK. During this time, I volunteered abroad in Greece, taking part in high volume spay/neuter programs for feral and stray cats – this was a turning point for the rest of my career! I developed a love for charity and welfare work, and for the last 3 years before I came to Hong Kong, I was the clinical lead veterinary surgeon for a small clinic attached to an independent animal shelter in the north-west of England. In 2022, I completed my Master’s Degree in Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law.
VETERINARY INTERESTS
I am a huge believer that neutering saves lives – spay/neuter is a passion of mine, as well as the welfare aspects of veterinary work. I love cats, so an interest in feline medicine and surgery comes naturally to me.
REASONS FOR WORKING AT THE SPCA (HK)
Due to my interest in animal welfare, I was drawn towards a job at SPCA. It’s exciting to be part of an organisation that is working so hard to improve the lives of animals in Hong Kong.
PETS
I have two rescue cats from the UK, called “Basil” (a very handsome black & white tuxedo cat), and “Percy” (a ginger demon who I hand-reared since he was 2 days old).
INTERESTS
I love travelling and eating, so I think I am well-placed in Hong Kong to fulfill both these hobbies! I have also recently taken up running and look forward to joining a running club soon.
