Issue 124 – Bring Your Dog to Work

The SPCA launched an educational programme in 2023 to encourage pet-inclusivity at the workplace, and it’s been an incredible journey to witness more and more mainstream corporates recognising a dog-friendly workplace can enhance employee well-being and morale, as well as acknowledging pets as our family members, celebrating diversity and inclusion.
Whether it is a one-off event or an ongoing dog-friendly policy, the Community Team at the SPCA will be thrilled to support – making pet-inclusivity a reality in Hong Kong – one paw at a time.

We chatted to a few corporates that joined our Bring Your Dog to Work (BYDTW) campaign recently, to see why they are supporting the cause.

Citi Hong Kong

We hope that our first BYDTW event in December 2024 is a small step in the right direction towards pet inclusivity and recognises the importance of animals as part of our families and how they enrich our lives.

Why Support BYDTW:

Citi believes in developing initiatives that help support the well-being of our colleagues. Research has shown that dog-friendly workplaces can enhance the well-being of employees, and these events also allow our teams to connect around shared passions for animal welfare beyond typical workplace boundaries, bringing our teams closer together.

Google Hong Kong

Upon acknowledgement of the responsibility disclaimer, Googlers are allowed to bring their “Dooglers” (dogs) to the office on weekdays to work alongside them at their desks and designated Doogler-friendly meeting rooms

Why Support BYDTW:

It has always been part of Google’s culture to encourage a dog-inclusive workplace and offer Googlers the flexibility to manage work-life balance better through bringing their furry companions to work (and this lines up nicely with BYDTW’s goal).

HSBC Hong Kong

HSBC Hong Kong recently took a step towards pet inclusivity by hosting its first BYDTW Day at the Tai Kok Tsui office.

Why Support BYDTW:

Bring Your Dog to Work Day is an opportunity to celebrate the special bond we share with our furry friends whilst allowing colleagues to experience the joy of having dogs in the workplace to facilitate a harmonious and relaxed atmosphere.

Beyond the immediate benefits for employees, Bring Your Dog to Work Day serves a greater purpose. It raises awareness of the benefits of pet ownership and encourages potential non-pet owners to consider welcoming a dog into their homes.

If you would like to showcase your pet-friendly office in our next issue, arrange a Bring Your Dog to Work event or develop an on-going policy partnering with the SPCA, please drop us a note.
