My pet is sick but it is an Emergency?

It is difficult and unwise to try to list conditions that are emergencies as each situation is different, but problems such as difficulty giving birth, not passing urine, prolapsed eye, breathing difficulty, open wounds, poisoning or traffic accidents generally require immediate treatment.

[Adopt Me – Wonka]

Hello, my name is Wonka! I was rescued from the Sheung Shui area with a head injury earlier in April 2026. Thankfully, the inspectors came to my rescue, and I was able to get the care and treatment I needed from the SPCA veterinary team. Although I still have a slightly wobbly gait, I am doing much better and am a friendly and sweet natured boy who gets on with other cats. If you can give me a loving, forever home, please come visit me and see if we make a good match!

SPCA Tsing Yi, Wan Chai, Kowloon and Sai Kung adoption centres are open every day 11am-5:30pm (appointment free).
Adoption process: bit.ly/42u9Znu

Recognising GDV in Time: A Senior Dog’s Emergency Story⚠️

Dr Olivia Fong, the SPCA’s Chief Veterinary Surgeon, shared with us a case involving a dog suffering from Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV).

GDV is an extremely critical and potentially fatal condition. When the stomach fills with gas and twists, the animal’s condition can deteriorate rapidly within a short period of time and requires immediate treatment.

Fortunately, in this case, the owner was very observant, noticed that something was wrong with the dog in time, and brought him for veterinary attention immediately, allowing it to receive treatment without delay.

If your dog shows signs of a bloated abdomen, restlessness, heavy panting, pain, or sudden obvious discomfort, don’t wait — seek veterinary care immediately.
