Towards a More Pet-Inclusive Hong Kong
Hong Kong is making progress towards more pet-inclusive dining. Under the Food Business (Amendment) Regulation 2026, which came into effect on 8 May 2026, restaurant operators may apply for permission to allow dogs to enter their premises, subject to licence conditions and operational requirements. In the first phase, up to 1,000 restaurants may join the scheme, with successful applications to be announced from mid-June 2026 and dog admission expected to begin in July 2026. As of 6 June, there were over 2000 applications submitted which is far exceeding the quota, showing the enthusiasm from the trade towards pet inclusivity.
