My pet is sick but it is an Emergency?

It is difficult and unwise to try to list conditions that are emergencies as each situation is different, but problems such as difficulty giving birth, not passing urine, prolapsed eye, breathing difficulty, open wounds, poisoning or traffic accidents generally require immediate treatment.

Many people feel nervous when an unfamiliar dog suddenly comes close. In fact, the dog may also be feeling frightened, startled, or uneasy about its surroundings, which can lead it to approach, observe, or act defensively.

Every situation is different, and there is no single response that works for every dog. In general, staying calm, avoiding actions that may provoke the dog, and responding safely based on the situation can help reduce risk and protect both people and dogs.

👉🏻 Swipe right to learn some general safety tips for when an unfamiliar dog approaches.

A reminder to dog owners as well: when taking your dog out, please leash your dog to help protect your own safety, your dog’s safety, and the safety of others.

Wan Chai Centre Dog Kennels are Getting a Little Makeover from 14 Sep to mid-December🐶✨

To make our dogs’ stay more comfortable and cosy, the dog kennels at SPCA Wan Chai Centre will be temporarily closed from14 Sep to mid-December for renovation works.

Our kennels have been in use for many years and are ready for a much-needed refresh. We’re improving the space to create a more comfortable and welcoming temporary home for the dogs in our care while they wait for their forever families. 💛

During this period, dog adoption services at SPCA Wan Chai Centre will be temporarily suspended. Cat and small animal adoption areas will remain open.

Starting next week, our dogs will be gradually relocated to a special room at SPCA Tsing Yi Centre. If you would like to visit them, are interested in adoption, or want to know where our dogs are staying, please call ahead to make an appointment:
📞 2802 0501 or 2232 5555

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we make things nicer for our doggies! 🐾

If you would like to support the renovation, your contribution can help us provide the dogs with a safer and more comfortable place to heal and wait for their new homes: bit.ly/4gK5YkT

I am just like any other cat and remain energetic, playful and bright!

If you can give me the happy ever after I deserve, please come visit me and see if we make a good match!

A moment of negligence can cost a life.

In February 2026, SPCA inspectors followed up on a case in Tseung Kwan O involving a dog that died after falling from a height. At the time of the incident, the dog was being temporarily cared for by a friend of the owner.

Following an investigation by the Police animal designated team, the incident was confirmed to be an accident and did not involve animal cruelty.

This tragic case is a reminder that accidents can happen in an instant — and many of them are preventable.

Whether pets are in the care of their owners, family members, friends or temporary caregivers, they must always be kept in a safe and secure environment. Owners should clearly explain their animal’s habits, temperament and needs in advance, while caregivers have a responsibility to take all necessary safety precautions to protect them from harm.

We would like to remind all owners and caregivers to ensure that windows and doors are properly secured to keep animals safe.

Being a responsible owner is about more than providing food and shelter. It also means protecting animals every day with care and helping to prevent tragedies from happening.
