My pet is sick but it is an Emergency?

It is difficult and unwise to try to list conditions that are emergencies as each situation is different, but problems such as difficulty giving birth, not passing urine, prolapsed eye, breathing difficulty, open wounds, poisoning or traffic accidents generally require immediate treatment.

Today is World Stray Animal Day.

Spring may be the season of new life — but it is also breeding season, a time when the SPCA sees a rise in calls about abandoned and stray animals of all kinds - ranging from rabbits, terrapins to unwanted litters of kittens, puppies and their stray mothers.

What starts as just one unplanned litter can quickly become many more. Cats and dogs can reproduce at an astonishing rate, and without desexing, animal numbers can soon spiral beyond control.

That means more animals are born into uncertainty. More hunger. More diseases. More suffering.

That’s why we believe desexing is the only long-term, effective and humane solution — reducing overpopulation and improving animal welfare at its source. Through our Cat Colony Care Programme (CCCP), Mongrel Desexing Programme (MDP), mobile desexing vehicle and our other desexing work we strive every day to help break this cycle.

Desexing doesn’t just prevent births — it prevents suffering.

💡 Did you know? Hong Kong was the first place in Asia to implement “Trap, Neuter, Return” for cats, and 2025 marked the 25th anniversary of our CCCP.

👉🏻 喺呢度提交你嘅意見:bit.ly/47E3r8i

Let’s Build a More Dog-Friendly Hong Kong — Together! 🐾

The Government is proposing an amendment of legislation Cap. 132X , which would finally allow us to enjoy a meal at licensed restaurants with our dogs by our side later this year.

This is a huge step toward a more inclusive, pet-friendly Hong Kong, and we need your voice to help cross the finish line!

How You Can Help
The Government is inviting public comments until 5:00 PM on Monday, 6 April. If you would like to see more welcoming dining options for people and their dogs, we encourage you to show your support by submitting your views.

👉🏻Submit your comments here: bit.ly/4sHBKE1

The SPCA supports the overall direction of this proposal and hopes the following principles will be considered as it moves forward:
- Restaurants should have the flexibility to decide whether to apply for the relevant licences, with requirements that are practical for both businesses and patrons.
- The application process should be simple and minimise administrative, financial and operational burdens.
- The legislative framework should remain flexible, with more detailed requirements set out in guidelines or licensing conditions where appropriate.
- Individual licensed premises should be able to set their own “House Rules” in line with the law, licence conditions and their operational needs.
- Rules for patrons should be clear, simple and based on practical risk assessment.

Let’s work together to create a city where more people and their dogs can enjoy everyday life side by side.

Animals should not suffer in the name of research.

Recent reports of extreme experiments on animals are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns.

The use of animals, of any species, in this way raises fundamental questions about ethics, necessity and animal welfare. Animals deserve consideration, respect and protection, not exploitation in experiments that may offer questionable benefit to humans or to animals themselves.

Although it has been reported that the research in question was not carried out in Hong Kong, there are still legitimate concerns about regulatory control, ethical oversight and the safeguarding of animal welfare across different jurisdictions. We hope this research is halted and that the project is fully reviewed.

The SPCA has long opposed the testing of cosmetics and household products on animals and in principle opposes all experiments or procedures, including behavioural ones, that cause pain, suffering or distress.

Where medical research is undertaken, we hope everyone supports the 3Rs:
- Replacement — using models, modelling systems or other alternatives instead of live animals
- Reduction — keeping the number of animals used to an absolute minimum
- Refinement — improving procedures to safeguard the welfare of any animals involved

Animals deserve protection — not unnecessary suffering.

領養程序: bit.ly/46WAu6g

On 21 March, we took 16 homing dogs from our Wan Chai, Tsing Yi, Sai Kung and Kowloon adoption centres on a fun day out to Tai Mo Shan, accompanied by our dog trainers and volunteer dog walkers!

A big thank you to @wong_kar_wai for joining us on the day. With the weather on our side, the dogs were in the best mood — sniffing the grass, enjoying the breeze, exploring all around, and having so much fun they didn’t want to leave!

We hope that while these lovely dogs enjoyed their outdoor adventure, more people will also get to know them and that they’ll soon find the loving homes they deserve 🏡

SPCA Tsing Yi, Wan Chai, Kowloon and Sai Kung adoption centres are open every day 11am-5:30pm (appointment free). Adoption process: bit.ly/42u9Znu

Come visit them and their other furry friends who are also waiting for a home!

領養程序:bit.ly/46WAu6g

[Adopt Me – Luk Luk]
Hello, my name is Luk Luk! I was found at a police station car park in the early hours of 12 December 2025. Thankfully, the inspectors were called to come pick me up and I now have a second chance at a happy ever after.
I am an outgoing, happy and playful young girl and enjoy spending my time playing with my cattery mate, Kin Jai (PN 612641) at the Kowloon Centre.
If you can give me and or, Kin Jai, a loving forever home, please come visit us to see if we make a good match!
