Dental disease is one of the most common problems in domestic pets with symptoms including bad breath, swollen gums, loose teeth, drooling and pain when eating. Here are a few things we can do to help animals maintain oral hygiene, preventing gum disease:

  1. Brush your pets teeth daily using a toothbrush and pet-safe toothpaste or gel;
  2. Occasionally use specifically designed chews or toys;
  3. Ensure you’re using a diet that will help maintain strong and healthy teeth and gums; and
  4. Lastly, ensure you get your pet’s teeth checked at least annually by your vet. This can be done at the same time as the annual vaccination. Your vet will be more than happy to advise whether professional scaling and polishing under anaesthesia is necessary.
