Dog Behaviour and Training

Dog Behaviour and Training

There is no time like the present to train a puppy, or retrain your dog, to help them fit into our world a little better. The SPCA offers training programmes aimed at preventing problems arising (puppy socialisation training) and to equip you with the knowledge you need to train your canine member of the family how to behave (basic obedience training). The SPCA’s methods are fun and easy for all family members.

As you would expect, the SPCA only uses positive-reinforcement training techniques which motivate and reward your dog to achieve the best outcomes. It also builds a bond based on trust, not fear, helping socialise and train your dog to be a well-mannered companion.

The better you understand your dog, the more your dog will understand you and the better your relationship will be.

The Importance of Obedience Training

Obedience training is an education in good manners. Our group classes are excellent for teaching you skills so that you can teach your canine companion to respond to cues for responses, such as sit, down, stand, stay, come and loose leash walking. They will also allow you to troubleshoot issues such as jumping up and pulling on the leash. Our training will help put an end to all kinds of undesirable behaviour without yelling, threats, force or punishment.

Start them young

It is much easier to prevent behaviour problems than to change bad habits. Start off on the right foot by attending training classes as early as possible in your dog’s life. After all, you would not wait until your child is a teenager to start their schooling.
