NAME:
Carmen Soo
TITLE:
Veterinary Surgeon
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION:
Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S), University of Edinburgh & Member of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon (MRCVS), UK.
CAREER PATH:
From the age of thirteen I had already decided I wanted to become a vet! But at the time there was no vet school in Hong Kong so at seventeen I left for the UK to pursue my dream. I returned to Hong Kong after graduating and started my career working for a private veterinary clinic before being offered a position at the SPCA.
VETERINARY INTERESTS:
I enjoy all aspects of the veterinary field, with a particular interest in internal medicine and ultrasonography.
REASONS FOR WORKING AT THE SPCA (HK):
I have always been committed to animal welfare. Working at the SPCA allows me to contribute my skills and knowledge in helping animals, not only to the privileged ones (with loving homes), but also to stray and abandoned animals. It brings me great enjoyment and job satisfaction to take part in our re-homing and neutering programmes, improving animal wellbeing whilst helping to control the stray population in Hong Kong. In addition the high caseload and the friendly, supportive team at the SPCA allows me to further enhance my veterinary skills and experience.
PETS:
My first ever pet “Fe Fe” (an 18-year old Beagle!) who inspired me to be a vet, and an ex-street cat called “Scotty” (recently adopted from the SPCA of course!).
INTERESTS:
Being a Christian, I go to church every Sunday. I also practice yoga during my spare time, to help keep myself mentally and physically healthy!
