NAME:
Melanie Kate Asquith
TITLE:
Veterinary Surgeon
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION:
Bachelor of Science (BSc) Veterinary Biology and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) both from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
CAREER PATH:
After graduating I headed home to Port Elizabeth and was lucky to be able to find work at practices offering a wide scope of veterinary work. From desexing feral cat colonies, to helping wildlife such as the African wild cats and cheetahs, from companion dogs to police dogs and not forgetting to mention horses, cattle and wild antelope species! During my time in Port Elizabeth I worked with a number of welfare organisations, and soon came to the realisation that animal welfare is a cause very close to my heart, so it was a natural progression on arrival in Hong Kong to apply for a job at the SPCA (HK).
VETERINARY INTERESTS:
Companion animal surgery and animal welfare.
REASONS FOR WOKING AT THE SPCA(HK):
It’s an amazing opportunity, I get to practice a high standard of veterinary medicine in Hong Kong and am still be able to work with welfare animals, this gives me great job satisfaction.
PETS:
My cat Ben10 who is in Hong Kong, and two gorgeous greyhounds Grace and George in South Africa.
INTERESTS:
I love being outdoors, and I love the ocean. I enjoy discovering Hong Kong and plan to travel throughout Asia, hopefully scuba diving at exciting destinations.
