Dog Walking Manner Training Course for Domestic Helpers

Do you rely on your domestic helper in taking care and walking of your beloved dog? Do you enjoy going for a walk with your dog after working? Do you love to take in some fresh air, get some exercise and enjoy a nice weekend with your dog? But rather than loose leash walking, what most of you experience is much different. Puppy chews his leash. Big dog drags the helper down the sidewalk running after a cat or a dog. Small dog’s legs are fluttering a million miles an hour under his harness, without actually moving anywhere. Slow dog stops to smell the ground (and garbage on the street) for 15 minutes every step of the way.

Loose Leash Walking Matters

Teaching your dog loose leash walking in public is incredibly important. Loose leash walking isn’t just more comfortable. It’s a safety issue too. An intensive training course can help your helper to learn various techniques and tips in loose leash walking.

FAQ:
Q

We joined SPCA Basic Obedience Dog Training Course. Is this course suitable for us?

A

SPCA Basic Obedience Dog Training Course gives you the skills to help your dog becoming a happy, well-behaved and confident companion. While this course provides excellent opportunities for all participants and dogs to practise loose leash walking in different situations. By concentrating on a single skill, both hooman and dogs are able to learn faster, practice those learned skills and succeed through positive reinforcement of desired behaviours. Positive reinforcement is when you reward your dog for doing something you like and ignore the behaviours you consider “bad” or unwanted.

Q

Besides domestic helper, can I (the employer) join the course as well?

A

Dog owner (employer)is encouraged to join this course with your domestic helper so that you could learn and practise the skills and techniques during the class.

Q

This is my first time to join SPCA Dog Training course. After completing this one, can I sign up for SPCA Intermediate Dog Training Course?

A

After completing this course, you are recommended to join our Basic Obedience Dog Training Course which you will learn how to handle and manage your dog in an environment where you need the most control – around other people and other dogs. Once you and your dog have mastered basic obedience training, our intermediate class will introduce you to the wonderful world of clicker training. When done correctly, clicker training enables you to teach your dog almost any behaviour!

Q

Besides my domestic helper, will my dog still know how to walk nicely with me?

A

Both your dog and your domestic helper would learn loose leash walking step by step. Different criteria we created provide the right kind of environment to teach your dog to walk nicely close to the hooman when it is distracted. We make it fun and enjoyable for both dog and his hooman by using positive training techniques…positive reinforcement training which is proven as the most effective and efficient animal training methodology. Dogs learn faster and better if they are given a choice. The idea of letting the dog decide whether to relax the leash or not may seem novel to many dog owners, but it is essential if your dog is going to learn to voluntarily walk nicely on a leash. Lots of practice makes perfect in the case of loose leash training with your dog who would not depend on who the hooman he is walking with.
