Sixth China Kennel Management Symposium 2014

The "Sixth China Kennel Management Symposium", organised by the Animals Asia Foundation, took place in Chengdu on 22 and 23 October. The SPCA was invited to attend along with more than 140 government departments and animal management NGOs from 35 cities. The symposium focused on "public education" and "shelter management".

Education Manager, Vivian Chiu, shared SPCA’s experience of the Society’s work in animal welfare education in Hong Kong. Director of China Outreach, Chris Cui, also detailed her experience of how NGOs in China are now working together to promote animal welfare. We are encouraged to see these organisations in China collaborating in this way.

Education and cooperation with government authorities are fundamental to improving animal welfare. This was exemplified by explaining how animal welfare groups overseas manage effective operations and whose governments actively seek animal welfare experts to provide a humane means of solving the problem of strays.

We partnered with numerous organisations at the meeting and will soon host seminars/lectures in government animal management departments in Xinjiang, Zhuhai and Shijiazhuang. Our promotion of animal welfare education in schools will continue in more cities in China.
