What animals will I help if I sponsor monthly?

A

SPCA helps many kinds of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, chinchillas, turtles, parrots, snakes, lizards etc. Due to the wide variety of species, only "dog", "cat" and "small animal" are listed as options in the sponsorship form. Sponsors can choose the animals they wish to sponsor, or choose one or more at the same time.

What will my monthly donation be used for?

A

We will make good use of your donation to look after and find homes for thousands of animals each year. Some have just been abandoned, some have been abused; and many are sick, injured and have behavioural problems. Your donation will be used for:

Expenses for newly rescued animals: basic physical examination, flea removal, vaccination, microchipping, neutering, various medical needs such as medicines, emergency surgery, x-rays or ultrasounds, different laboratory tests etc.

Expenses for animals awaiting adoption: meals, comfortable and hygienic living area, playgrounds, outings, regular physical check-ups, ongoing medical needs, rehabilitation treatments such as underwater treadmills, basic obedience training, behavioural counseling etc.

Our income and expenditure are audited annually by registered auditors and published in the Annual Review in November each year. The Annual Review over the years has also been uploaded onto the website. We strive to make sure that you know how we spend the money in an open, transparent and professional manner. Q

How much is sponsoring an animal?

A

The recommended minimum amount is $100 per animal per month. Sponsoring two animals would be $200 per month, and so on. All donations over the amount of $100 are eligible for tax deduction in Hong Kong.

How much does SPCA spend on administration?

A

With 99% of our income coming from the enthusiastic support of the public, the SPCA has always used our resources prudently. In recent years, SPCA's administrative expenses accounted for about 3% of our total expenses.

Can I sponsor a specific animal?

A

Our aim is to find a suitable home for our animals as soon as possible so that they can regain the love of owners after their misfortunes. Quite a lot of animals will be adopted within weeks. Designating an animal as a sponsor will inevitably increase administrative costs. For our purposes and administrative costs, we are sorry that our sponsors are not able to sponsor a specific animal. But please rest assured that your donation will go directly towards helping thousands of animals each year, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we devote maximum resources to caring for animals.

What payment methods can I use?

A

Automatic monthly donation can be made by Visa, MasterCard or AMEX credit card, or by monthly direct debit from your checking account. Application registered online will make a monthly donation via PayPal (available online only).

If you wish to donate via cheque or cash, it will be considered as a one-off donation, and not monthly donation.

Will I get a confirmation notification after handing in the form?

A

We will send out a confirmation email or notify you via telephone call.

What is the transaction date of donation?

A

Credit Card / Bank Monthly Direct Debit: 15th – 17th each month
Online Paypal: depending on donor’s settings in his/her Paypal account

When will I receive my annual donation receipt?

A

We will post / email (depending on your preference) your annual donation receipt between the end of April and the first week of May of each year.

Upon Becoming a Sponsor

Q

What will I receive after becoming a sponsor?

A

Besides annual donation receipt, you will receive a complimentary copy of "Pawprint" quarterly magazine issued by the SPCA, an electronic "ASP Newsletter" in September, a printed Thank You Letter, Thank You Certificate and "Annual ASP Newsletter" each year from late April to early May.

How can I see the animal I sponsored?

You have sponsored thousands of animals who are looking for homes each year! Can I send gifts to the sponsored animal?

We are grateful for your generosity. Normally our homing department is very happy to receive different animal necessities. For small amount of gifts, you are welcome to directly give the donation to the staff in each centre. For large quantities of donations, please kindly contact us. Do I become a SPCA member by joining the "Animal Sponsorship Programme"?

A

The "Animal Sponsorship Programme" aims at providing steady support to the thousands of animals seeking homes each year; however, animal sponsors do not automatically become members. You are most welcome to also become a member (https://www.spca.org.hk/en/join-us/become-a-member)to enjoy different SPCA services and exclusive member discount.

Cancellation / Information Change

How can I cancel my sponsorship, or change my donation amount / giving method / personal particulars?

You are welcome to download and fill in the following forms and return to us via post, email or fax.

- Update address or email address
- Change of Personal Particulars / Donation Details Form
- Cancellation of Monthly Donation Form

If you join the Animal Sponsorship Programme via our webpage, you will be directed to the payment platform of PayPal. If you would like to make any changes or cancellation in the future, please be noted that you must carry out instructions on the PayPal platform.
