Job description:


  • To manage the Welfare Department Veterinary Assistant team - being responsible for the rostering, supervision and training and assist with recruitment
  • Supervising the daily work of the Welfare Department including nursing support, animal handling and care
  • Assist the rostered welfare veterinary surgeons (or any other veterinary surgeon as directed) in their duties, following protocols for any duty performed
  • Assist in communicating with the public and the AFCD on questions pertaining to incoming animals, including helping to resolve questions of ownership and owner forfeitures, contacting informers, special adoption cases, and so forth
  • To updating and developing medical as well as operational policies, procedures, and protocols pertaining to cases involving welfare animals
  • Assist in maintaining an open line of communications with the SPCA inspectorate team regarding the progress and timely follow up of prosecution cases
  • Be aware of public relations issues involving the Welfare Department and liaise with AFCD, private Veterinary Surgeons and any other relevant bodies maintaining a good working relationship
  • Provide / assist with animal welfare related training to other SPCA employees, volunteers or third parties as required
  • Maintains a positive and cooperative relationship with all employees
  • Assist in any ad-hoc projects and events when assigned



  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with a recognised qualification in veterinary nursing, or substantial experience in work related to animal shelters, veterinary or other animal industry
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities, with a deep passion for animal welfare
  • A desire to coach and mentor team members to be the best they can be
  • Good command of both spoken and written English & Chinese
  • Ability to provide conflict resolution and problem solve
  • Be able to take shift duty on public holidays and weekends
  • Five-day work week; Working hour: 8:45am – 6:00pm;
  • Genuine interest in the welfare of all animals
  • Immediate availability is preferred
