SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Animal Rescue Hotline - 2711 1000
• Animal Rescue Operations
• Inspection of animal holding premises
• Collection and Transportation of animals
• Investigation of suspected animal cruelty complaints
• Education and Promotion of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

PERSONNEL

The Department has an establishment of over 22 full time staff.

RANK STRUCTURE

• Hotline Operator
• Animal Rescue Inspector
• Senior Inspector: At least 3 years experience with proven ability and excellent operational duty performance.
• Chief Inspector: At least three years experience as senior inspector with excellent operational, complaint investigation and management duty performance
• Chief Investigating Office:Ex Government Law Enforcement experience
• Superintendent: At least 3 years experience as chief inspector with outstanding leadership.
• Deputy Director Inspectorate

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES OF ANIMAL RESCUE INSPECTORS

Academic Qualification

Tertiary and above (special consideration may be given to those who is below but with relevant job experience)

• Able to handle animals including seriously injured animals and/or carcasses

• Knowledge on Animals
• Animal Handling Knowledge and Skills
• Animal Welfare Concept
• Hong Kong Legal and Judicial System
• Animal Related Legislations (those relevant to the work)
• Animal Protection Legislations
• Investigation Skills
• Prosecution procedures and related matters

Basic Special Skills required before employment

Qualify and able to drive a motor vehicle of class 1 and 2 with at least two year driving experience.

TRAINING

• Basic theory Training - 3 months
• On the Job Training - 9 months
• Continuation Training - Yearly refresher
• First Aid
• Occupational Safety and Health
• Overseas Exchange / Training / Attachments - Selected Inspectorate Officers
• Special animal knowledge and handling refresher

OPERATIONAL BASE

• Headquarters - SPCA Kowloon Centre
• Operational Base of Hong Kong Island - SPCA Hong Kong Centre
