Dog rescue in Hong Kong

Dog Rescue: Helping animals who need it most

There are many happy dogs in HK, but sadly, there are also dogs that are suffering out there and badly need our help. Whether abused by owners, or experiencing the pain and isolation of neglect, it’s a sad state of affairs, and one that SPCA are dedicated to helping to eradicate for good.

Dog Rescue: What does the SPCA do?

Quite simply, if we identify a dog in need, we’ll send a team of inspectors to the property to assess the situation in more depth. If we feel that the dog is suffering neglect or abuse, we’ll remove the animal from the premises and take them back to one of our SPCA centres or veterinary facilities, so that they can receive the appropriate medical care and attention.

Then, we’ll focus on finding the dog a new home, which of course, is where you come in! To find out more about the process of dog adoption and welcoming a rescue dog into your home, click here.

Why is it so important to provide a Dog Rescue Service in Hong Kong?

SPCA provides a vital service within Hong Kong. Here are just a few reasons why our service is so important:

  • Saving a dog from misery and neglect. We believe that no animal should have to suffer the pain and indignity of mistreatment, and that all dogs have a right to a good quality of life.
  • Providing appropriate medical care. If a dog is suffering from injury or illness, we can help cure them and give them a new lease of life.
  • Finding new homes. Our dog adoption services mean that our rescue dogs are given new lives in homes where they are loved and looked after.

Few can resist having ‘man’s best friend’ as a pet! If you’re one of the many people who think that canine companions make the perfect pet, then why not consider adopting a dog from one of SPCA’s shelters?

Why dog adoptions, and not buying from a pet supplier?

SPCA, as the city’s largest non-profit animal shelter organization, have a whole host of dogs available to adopt today. But what exactly is the advantage of adoption, rather than buying from a pet shop or professional breeder?

  • You’re making a difference. Many of our dogs haven’t had the greatest start in life and are actively seeking kind owners to transform their lives for the better.
  • Friendly, fun pets: Shelter dogs often make great pets and will bring warmth and fun into your home.
  • No unwanted pups: Most of our dogs are neutered or spayed prior to adoption, saving you the cost of paying for surgery.
  • Healthy dogs: All our dogs have been given thorough physical examinations and vaccinations.

Dog Adoption: Things to Think About

Initially, you need to assess your home and lifestyle and ensure that you are ready for the responsibility of owning a dog. They not only require a good home, but plenty of exercise and fresh air; not to mention attention! Check that you’ve got the time to dedicate to your new four legged friend, to ensure you both get the best from the experience.
