Geriatric Cat Care Seminar

 

From what age can a cat be considered senior 10, 12 or 14 years….? Surprisingly the answer is any cat 7 years or more!

As with humans as cats mature, they may become less active and develop various diseases associated with old age. They may not be able to jump as before or groom themselves as well due to arthritis, their drinking and eating habits may change due to dental, renal or thyroid diseases and they may either gain or lose weight!

It’s essential for owners to treat their aging cats with special care, and provide a suitable and loving environment for them to enjoy life. Many of the above problems if identified early can be alleviated or their progression slowed down with special diets and medications.

The presentation will cover a wide variety of topics including senior cat nutrition, comfort, behaviour and the common medical problems they face such as stiffness, loss of muscle mass and organ failure e.g. kidney disease.
