Legislation Talk - Increasing protection for all animals

In 2010 the University of Hong Kong in conjunction with the SPCA released a report on a review of animal welfare legislation in Hong Kong. One of the main recommendations of the report was that the CAP 169 was radically overhauled and the concept of ‘duty of care’ was introduced.

Now looking to amend CAP 169 the Government wants your views on how to better protect animals and ensure their good welfare.

Come and learn more about the background. Ms Whitfort will reference her extensive research in the field of animal law and highlight deficiencies that should be addressed - explaining the concept of “duty of care’ and the importance of including this in the amended legislation.

Dr Woodhouse will focus on the practical aspects of using the current legislation and how amending and improving the legislation will directly help animals and assist with enforcement meeting both the animals needs and the publics expectations.

You will also hear about recent advances in animal law in Hong Kong and some of the challenges ahead.
