24-Hour SPCA Inspectorate
Hotline
2711 1000
The SPCA
wages a continuous fight against cruelty to animals.
Our small team of 16 inspectors provides a 24-hour emergency service 365 days a
year covering Hong Kong, Kowloon, the New Territories and outlying Islands.
Annually they respond to over 40,000 calls for help, collecting or rescuing
around 6,000 animals, carrying out more than 1,000 inspections of markets and
pet shops and investigating over 600 complaints of cruelty. Where appropriate,
they give warnings or advice, where tougher action is necessary, they instigate
prosecutions.
According to the Laws of Hong Kong, Chapter 169 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance and Regulations, any person who contravenes above-mentioned ordinance or regulations shall be liable to a fine of $200,000 and to imprisonment for 3 years. The Society will continue to push
for the introduction of higher penalties for cruelty and strict enforcement of
existing ones.
