(HONG KONG, 5 March 2010) The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) [SPCA (HK)] will be closing its Pokfulam Centre on 27 March 2010. SPCA (HK) asks members of the public to consider offering permanent, caring homes to healthy and adorable dogs, cats and small animals if they can accommodate the arrival of a new companion animal.
ˇ§The Pokfulam Centre will close by the end of the month. This is sad news for the SPCA (HK) as this means that we will have less room to hold animals waiting to find homes. We are planning to relocate these animals to our other centres but unfortunately these centres are almost at full capacity too,ˇ¨ says Dr. Fiona Woodhouse, Deputy Director, Welfare Services. ˇ§We shall run a special Adoption Week between 6 to 12 March, inviting members of the public to visit our six adoption centres to view our adorable and healthy dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters. The more animals are being adopted from our other centres, means more space to house those relocated from Pokfulam.ˇ¨
The SPCA Pokfulam Centre came into service since August 2007, and it currently offers veterinary, grooming and animal adoption services plus a supply of quality pet products. This centre also provides holding space for animal cruelty exhibits that needs to undergo legal procedures, as well as a variety of other special cases such social welfare cases and for those victims of tragedies, such as fires, sometimes even prisonersˇ¦ dogs. ˇ§The SPCA (HK) is urgently looking for a replacement site hopefully on the Island, although we would also consider suitable locations in Kowloon and the New Territories,ˇ¨ says Sandy Macalister, Executive Director of the SPCA (HK).
The SPCA (HK) asks members of the public who, after careful consideration, are interested to take a companion animal home, to pay visit to one of our animal adoption centres between 6 to 12 March. Please support animal adoption. Help us Protect Animals.
