H.E.L.P. - Helpers Education and Learning Programme

ˇKˇKtaking dog care to the next level

Many employers in Hong Kong have domestic helpers who help in walking, feeding, bathing and taking their dogs for veterinary care. Although employers do their best to train their domestic helpers in the basics of pet care, a more detailed education can prepare your helper for the different situations they will encounter with your dog and help improve your pet's welfare in the process.

Due to the popularity of the courses the SPCA (HK) is offering further training classes for helpers. The main objective of this program is to enhance pet care knowledge and skills.

The details and dates of the classes are as follows:

About the Instructor - Janice Jensen of Hong Kong Animal Speak
Janice has worked on animal welfare initiatives for over 20 years. Since moving to Hong Kong in 2004, she has devoted her time to working with animal welfare organisations including the SPCA, Animals Asia Foundation and the Jane Goodall Institute. In 2007 she created her own Society called HK Animal Speak aimed at providing a place for free animal welfare information and education for people and their pets in Hong Kong. For the last two years, Janice has worked as a vet assistant and most recently has been asked to be a guest lecturer for the Royal Veterinary College's nursing programme in Hong Kong.

Although Janice is involved in many areas of animal welfare, her passion continues to be in the arena of behaviour and socialisation training for owners and their dogs.

"Concern for animal welfare should start in the home," says Janice, therefore she feels teaching a course for domestic helpers is extremely important as our pets depend on them for much of their care.
