Earthquake & Tsunami in Japan Has taken tens of thousands of human and animal lives SPCA (HK) is offering much needed help
We are all deeply shocked by the terrible tragedy in Japan. Like so many others around the world we stand ready to contribute if required and are seeking out ways to help in our own areas of expertise.
The SPCA (HK) has made contact with global as well as local animal welfare organizations, finding out how we can most effectively offer help, including veterinary, rescue, and other welfare support.
Although SPCA is talking with a number of different groups and agencies, the one that we shall channel donated funds to is the Japan Animal welfare Society. (JAWS)
Website: www.jaws.or.jp
JAWS is a well established group who work closely with Government and who have a leading role in the coalition of agencies that presently exists.
They inform that of the 300,000 to 500,000 of the earthquake victims that are presently living in shelters, some 7% to 10% have companion animals with them. They also urgently require feeding, care and shelter.
If you wish to show support to animals in Japan deeply in need of help, please donate to the SPCA (HK) Japan Earthquake Fund. Donations collected will be channelled to the captioned local organisations accordingly.
