  DOG POISONING ALERT
Along Bowen Road and Blacks Link
SPCA (HK) Awards $160,000 for Prosecution of Offender

(HONG KONG, 9 December 2010) The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) [SPCA (HK)] reminds dog owners to take extra precaution while walking their dogs along Bowen Road and Blacks Link. Dog poisoning culprit(s) remain active and traces of poisoned baits have been found on the footpath as well as on the slopes.

"Our Inspector Team has found patches of poisoned baits in the past few days along this 'dog poisoning hot spot'. Patches found are no longer confined to the footpath but scattered up and down the slopes, making them less visible. We remind owners not to let their dogs walk off the lead. Dogs should be leashed and kept in a visible distance to its owner," reminds HO Tse Tong, Tony, Chief Officer Inspectorate.

The SPCA (HK) reminds dog owners to:

  1. ALWAYS walk your dog on a short leash, keeping him in a visible distance,
  2. Muzzle your dog (with a basket-type muzzle) if necessary,
  3. DO NOT let your dog eat anything not given by yourself,
  4. Observe symptoms of poisoning, which include excessive drooling, panting, vomiting, dull, lethargy, seizures, etc. Rush your dog to the nearest vet clinic as quickly as possible,
  5. Owners are advised to carry with them a small amount of washing soda crystals. This is not an antidote but when placed at the base of the tongue hopefully can induce vomiting. Washing soda crystals can be obtained free of charge from the Dispensary at the SPCA (HK) Wanchai Headquarters. Interested parties can call 2802-0501 to enquire,
  6. Report dog poisoning to the Police and the SPCA (HK) (24-hour hotline 2711-1000) and to assist in investigation, or report any suspicious characters to the Police and the SPCA (HK)
The SPCA (HK) and the Police are determined to catch the culprit(s) and any information provided could lead to an end of this extremely cruel, unlawful act. A HK$160,000 SPCA Reward for providing information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the offender(s) remain valid. The SPCA (HK) would also like to remind dog owners to clean up after their dogs, and to properly manage their dogs to avoid causing inconveniences and nuisances to the others.
