Bringing Humane Education to the YMCA of Hong Kong Easter Camp
Twenty young YMCA campers, aged 8 to 10 years, completed the Humane Education Easter Camp run by the SPCA education team and were awarded the title "Care for Animal Ambassador" to help in promoting kindness to animals.
The 3-day camp, co-organised by the SPCA and YMCA of Hong Kong(Camping Section) on 7-9 April 2010, offered participants an educational opportunity to learn in a fun and easy way about Humane Education. Various group activities, such as sharing thoughts and growing-up experiences, drawing postcards, designing posters, playing a range of games, watching slides, debating and completing work-sheet assignments, exposed the children to topics including the animal kingdom, animals and their habitats, the needs of wild animals, pets and farm animals, animal life-cycles, suitable pets, caring for exotics and animal welfare, plus the basic concept of Responsible Pet Ownership.
The last day of the camp included a trip to the SPCA Headquarters in Wanchai where the young ambassadors could see for themselves the work of the Society and visit the animals in the Homing Department.
