The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is pleased to announce the winners of the SPCA – No Fur Campaign 2009 Essay Competition. The Competition was open to students of all tertiary institutions and universities in Hong Kong and challenged entrants to write an essay of no more than 1,500 words, in English or Chinese, on the topic of:
Fur: Is the "Natural Choice" the Right Choice in Today's Environment?
A total of 77 students submitted essays of an overall pleasingly high standard. We were delighted to receive a considerable number of outstanding entries. A panel of judges has chosen the winning essays with results as follows:
We would like to congratulate the winners and thank all participating students for the effort that they put into the essays and for sharing with us their thoughts and insights.
Our special thanks go to the supporting universities and colleges as well as to the judges for making our event possible. We are also grateful to have the support of the bookshops in kindly offering poster space for our promotion.
The aim of the Essay Competition was to raise awareness of the cruelty to animals within the fur trade. We hoped that by taking part, all entrants would, in the process of researching the topic, learn what represents the right choice on this issue and the right attitude towards the use of fur, and thus be able to influence others.
