The SPCA and the Hong Kong Scout Association have recently produced the scouts' first Animal Care Badge in a joint effort to promote animal welfare to the scout members. Through the initiative, two new badges are added to the Boy Scouts' Proficiency Badges scheme: the Animal Care Badges for Scouts (from 11 to 16 years old) and the Animal Care Badge for Cub Scouts (from 8 to 11 years olds). Young scouts are encouraged to attend the animal welfare course based on the lesson plans of the SPCA Humane Education Package to learn the basics of Animal Welfare and Responsible Pet Ownership.
The first seminar had been conducted on Oct 10 at the SPCA Headquarter with 21 scout leaders participated. The Award Ceremony was held on Dec 13, 2009 during the SPCA Pet Carnival with the scout leaders' representatives attended receiving the award of the Certificates. More seminars for the young scouts will follow in the coming months.
