Animal Protection Humane Education Project, Xiamen
A joint project of the SPCA (HK) and the Xiamen Animal Protection Association (XMAPA), China , for the school students of Xiamen . We believe that EDUCATION is the key to minimising animal abuse, improving animal welfare and that the new generation will be the agents for future change. Students will cultivate positive values for social and personal development and a concern and respect for others.

The XMAPA, a NGO of teachers and principals, is responsible for recreating the package. Mr. Hsu, Head of the Ethics Department of the Xiamen Education Bureau has expressed support of the positive values the package and the efforts of the SPCA seek to achieve; a respect for life begins with concern for animals.

This is a 4-year project aims to reach 35,000 students by 2013. We also aim to work with the Chinese Education Bureau to further promote the usage of the package. For further information of the project, please click here.

Veterinary Training
This initiative, supported by the PRC Government aims to raise the standard of veterinary science and introduce concepts of animal welfare to Chinese veterinary surgeons. Working to achieve these goals we have scheduled a number of lectures at major Chinese Veterinary Universities and Associations. Our aim is to widen the practice and improve the technique of vets; using up to date and safe practices (including desexing procedures).

At the same time as delivering lectures and practical demonstrations we have produced an Animal Birth Control DVD detailing all aspects of desexing from patient preparation, anaesthetic and surgical techniques to post operative care. In addition the DVD promotes animal welfare especially the health benefits of desexing. Both the lecture series and DVD production would not have been possible without the generous support of our China sponsor Royal Canin.

Vet Observation Program at SPCA, Hong Kong
This program allows mainland (and overseas) vets to spend time at the SPCA observing all aspects of the societies work including inspectorate duties, welfare desexing, consultations, surgery and hospitalisation. The plan is to expose them to modern, leading edge veterinary and animal welfare practices. To apply, please click here.

Public Education
Responsible Pet Ownership/Desexing ¡VThrough local animal welfare groups, we promote responsible pet ownership and the importance of desexing.

Animal Birth Control
Following specific requests from a large number of organisations to assist then to develop credible ABC programs we provide advice and technical support. This takes the form of the SPCA HK sending vets to work with local vets, who are already committed to helping local organisations, assisting them to develop practice principles as well as demonstrate good surgical technique on desexing of animals at specific shelters. To aid this further we are investigating the costs and license requirements of building a mobile clinic facility that can be moved around southern China.
