    Puppy Socialisation Course

    This is a great opportunity for you and your canine youngster (under 18 weeks old before the beginning of class) to join others and have a terrific time whilst learning important life skills. This course teaches puppy manners and obedience commands such as sit, down, leave it and stay. We will show you the best ways to overcome common puppy problems, such as play-biting, housetraining, chewing, jumping up etc. Classes even include some supervised play time for your puppy to learn good socialisation skills! So join us at the SPCA and give your puppy a head start in life!
     
    Course PrerequisitesĄG
    Puppies must be under 18 weeks of age and have received their first two DHiLPP vaccinations.


    Frequency & DurationĄG
    1 hour per class per week, for a total 6 weeks (unless stated otherwise on the schedule)

    The first class of each course is a theory class. Handouts are provided. Please leave your dog at home!

    Large Dog Basic Obedience Course 

    This is a fun beginner level obedience course designed for well-socialised adolescent and adult dogs over 10kg. Course content includes obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, come, leave it, loose-leash walking, an introduction to heeling and not jumping up. There is also an emphasis on the prevention of future problems such as handling issues and food bowl guarding.


    Course Prerequisites
    This is a course for dogs over 18 weeks of age and over 10 kg in weight. Dogs should be fully v accinated; vaccinations, including DHiLPP and rabies, should be up-to-date.
     
    Small Dog Basic Obedience Course

    Basic training with a tiny twist! A beginner level obedience course designed for dogs under 10kg. The course covers the same materials as the Large Dog Basic Obedience course but with a small dog focus.


    Course Prerequisites :
    This is a course for dogs over 18 weeks of age and under 10 kg in weight. Dogs should be fully

    vaccinated; vaccinations, including DHiLPP and rabies, should be up-to-date.


    Frequency & Duration :
    1 hour per class per week, for a total 6 weeks (unless stated otherwise on the schedule)

    Intermediate Obedience "Clicker" Course

     
    Do you experience difficulties in getting your dog to pay attention and respond correctly to basic commands ALL the time? This course is designed to improve your dog's responses to obedience commands learned in basic training using the clicker technique. Dogs love to learn so we have also included plenty of fun tricks to increase your dog's repertoire of commands. If you would like to take your dog's training a bit further, this is the course for you!


    Large Dogs - Intermediate Obedience "Clicker" Course

    Course Prerequisites :
    This is a course for dogs over 18 weeks of age and over 10 kg in weight. Dogs should be fully vaccinated; vaccinations, including DHLPP and rabies, should be up-to-date.


    Small Dogs - Intermediate Obedience "Clicker" Course

    Private classes
     
    Sometimes group classes do not fit your schedule. Or your dog has a particular issue you would like to address. Or your dog gets a bit stressed out around other dogs and/or humans. The SPCA Behaviour & Training department also offers private classes, by appointment only, please contact our staff on 2232 5567 for details.
