- Adopters must be 21 years of age or over. Parents or guardians living at the same address must adopt on behalf of those under 21.
- Adopters must satisfy the Society that they will provide a suitable home for the animal and look after it to the best of their ability. We regret that owing to the Housing Department?s strict regulations, no pets of any kind can be homed to those living in public estates.
- DOCUMENTARY proof of residential address must be presented before an adoption is approved. In certain cases, a home inspection or written confirmation by the housing management may be required.
- The adoption agreement must be signed and the appropriate fees paid.
- The Society reserves the right to refuse any application for adoption and to revise requirements and fees without notice.
- DESEXING IS COMPULSORY Those who do not wish to have their pet desexed should not apply to adopt from the SPCA. Desexing prevents unwanted litters and disease in later life. The Society would rather prevent the birth of surplus puppies and kittens than have to put them to sleep.
- Whenever possible, desexing will be done before an animal leaves the centre, but in cases where animals are still too young, the operation will be arranged for a later date. For dogs and cats, too young to be desexed at the time of adoption an additional $1,000 deposit must be paid before the pet is taken home. This deposit will be fully refunded when the pet is desexed.
- Persons who adopt must be members of the Society. Those who join for the first time when adopting enjoy a reduced membership fee for the first year.
- In the event of any dispute the English version of these conditions will prevail.
Veterinary consultations at society clinics are charged at a reduced rate for homed animals. There is also a one-off 10% discount for all pet food and accessories bought from our shops on the day of adoption.
No charge is made for the animal itself or for feeding and care prior to adoptions. Please consider donating a little extra to help with these costs.

desexing. The dog-package also includes rabies vaccination, microchipping and heartworm testing.
