  A Short History of the SPCA in Hong Kong
   
 
29th August 1903 Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) founded but remained inactive.
24th June 1921 SPCA re-established with the Governor Sir R. E. Stubbs as President and Patron.
20th February 1922 First fund-raising event - a fancy dress ball - held in City Hall.
June 1923 First Dog's Home, funded by Lady Ho Tung, opened in Waterloo Road.
December 1934 New enlarged Dog's Home opened in Tam Kung Road, Kowloon City- funded by Sir Robert and Lady Ho Tung.
1950 SPCA re-formed after Second World War.
1953 SPCA office in Beaconsfield Arcade Queens Road Central built with funds from Jockey Club.
1964 Harcourt Road Centre opened housing Dorothy McGregor Animal Clinic.
1967 Kowloon Centre and Clinic opened - funded by Jockey Club.
1978 Society formally recognized as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
1983 Lenore Nell Winfield Clinic opened on Cheung Chau Island.
Sai Kung Centre and Clinic opened.
1985 Hong Lok Yuen Centre and Clinic opened.
1987 Mobile Veterinary Clinic started for New Territories.
1992 The Jockey Club Pamela D. Barton Animal Welfare Centre opened in Wanchai. Building funded by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and hospital and x-ray facilities generously sponsored by Miss Pamela D. Barton Hon. President and Mrs. Annie Ng respectively.
1995 Members vote at Annual General Meeting to drop the prefix "Royal" from the Society's name with effect from 1st January 1997.
1996 Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals celebrates its 75th Anniversary of activity in Hong Kong.
1997 RSPCA drops the "Royal" prefix and becomes the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong).
November 1997 SPCA Kowloon Centre closed for redevelopment. Temporary center opened in Hung Hom to continue servicing members.
April 2000 SPCA announcer the plan to move Hong Kong towards a "No Kill" city.
April 2000 Opening of Pokfulam "Bo Bo Animal Welfare Centre" was made possible by a generous donation from Bo Bo Wu.
August 2000 The Trap, Neutered and Release method was used for the Cat Colony Care Program.
February 2001 Reopening of Kowloon Centre.
May 2001 SPCA initiated and sponsored the first "Asia for Animals" Symposium in Manila.
September 2001 Mui Wo "Bo Bo Animal Welfare Centre" opened, kindly sponsored by Bo Bo Wu.
October 2001 Society celebrated 80th anniversary with a fund raising ball.
2002 Cat boxes were abandoned gradually with a massive drive for education to signify the new era of animal welfare in Hong Kong. A cat box was donated to the Hong Kong Museum of History as part of Hong Kong animal welfare's history.
September 2002 Animal Welfare Vehicle started operations to provide low cost desexing services to remote villages.
2003 Mongkok "Adopt a Pet Centre" opened with the kind donation by Extra Trading Company.
September 2003 SPCA hosted the second international event "Asia for Animals" in Hong Kong.
